SPY PIC: Callaway Big Bertha EPIC Driver

Post image for SPY PIC: Callaway Big Bertha EPIC Driver

It's quickly shaping up to be a hell of a week for new club releases, both authorized and less so. Yesterday we showed you the 2017 TaylorMade M1. Cobra Launched it's F7 Drivers, Fairways, and Hybrids earlier today, and now a photo of Callaway's 2017 Big Bertha Epic Driver is making the rounds.

As per usual in pre-embargo situations, Callaway isn't commenting, but here's what we've been able to piece together.

  • Like 2017 M1, the BB Epic appears to make use of a significant amount of carbon fiber in the sole, presumably to offset any extra mass from Jailbreak Technology while freeing up discretionary weight.
  • The usable area of the rear weight track has been reduced on the heel side (likely a limitation stemming from the addition of carbon fiber)
  • The driver features Jailbreak Technology, which we're told uses two rods to directly connect the crown and the sole (similar to the gravity core in BB Alpha designs). The story will be greater ball speeds within the confines of the USGA limits. You might say it breaks driver technology out of the USGA's jail. If it works, we're talking about legitimate breakthrough technology.
  • There will be two models. A higher MOI standard version designed for the majority of golfers will be paired with lower spinning SZ (Sub-Zero) model for aggressive swingers.
  • The RAZR Xtreme neon green color scheme is back. Admit it; you've missed it.
