Here’s your first look at the Pro/SL, the latest spikeless offering from FootJoy.
Less what’s generally called a crossover (a golf shoe suitable for wear on and off the course), and more a real golf shoe with admittedly non-traditional spikes, the Pro/SL is already one of the most popular shoes across all of the worldwide professional tours.
FootJoy estimates that roughly 60 of its staffers, including Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, and Andrew “Beef” Johnson, are wearing the shoe. That’s an impressive stat considering:
- FootJoy staffers are free to choose any shoe in the FootJoy catalog (and it’s a big catalog)
- The Pro/SL hasn’t been in the catalog particularly long
Adam Scott is particularly impressed by the Pro/SL’s versatility.
Scott is far from alone in his assessment. Tour Pros have moved to the Pro/SL so quickly that FootJoy moved up its release due to its emerging popularity. What good is a popular tour shoe if the consumer can’t buy it, right? Well, now you can.
Pro/SL Features
As far as features go, the Pro/SL is billed as a spikeless shoe that looks and performs like a real (spiked) golf shoe.
The upper is made from ChromoSkin leather by Pittards. The rest of the shoe is built largely from FTF (Fine Tuned Foam), which FootJoy says is 10% lighter than the more common EVA material.
The first layer is soft for cushioning and comfort. The second layer is firmer for support and balance during the swing. Finally, the spikeless outsole is made from durable TPU that FootJoy (and Adam Scott) say provides traction in both wet and dry conditions.
As you’d expect from FootJoy, the Pro/SL comes with a 2-year waterproof warranty.
Testing Underway
The FootJoy Pro/SL is currently in testing. Preliminarily, comfort and traction have been excellent. More details to come.
