Last month, we introduced you to Buffalo-based ball manufacturer OnCore Golf, and while that piece you a closer look at the team behind the brand, the company is perhaps best known for its hollow metal core technology. What golfers still may not realize is that OnCore also produces more conventional, tour-quality products designed for serious players.
Like many of the new generation ball companies, OnCore believes its ELIXR Ball is every bit the equal of premium offerings from Titleist, Bridgestone, Callaway, and well, you know the list. What separates OnCore from many of its upstart competitors is that it isn't relabeling a generic factory ball, it's innovating; leveraging new materials and proprietary designs to create a tour-quality ball unlike anything else on the market.
About the ELIXR
Like many in the category, the ELIXR features 3-Piece construction. Instead of rubber, OnCore uses a composite core, which it says delivers exceptional CoR for maximum distance. The distinguishing feature of the ELIXR is its polymer mantle layer that's infused with high-density metal particles. OEMs are only now starting to talk about MOI in a golf ball, but the benefit of putting more mass towards the perimeter is greater stability, particularly in windy conditions. As you would expect from a tour-level ball, the ELIXR features a cast urethane cover for soft feel and outstanding greenside control.
On a personal note, I completely understand your skepticism. MOI in a golf ball? If this is the first time you've heard of it, it won't be the last, I promise.
The fact is that upstart brands send us golf balls all the time and the majority are either indistinguishable from one another or just plain bad.
